We welcome all middle and high school musicians (Church of Jesus Christ Members & friends)! Our musical auditions follow specific audition guidelines, but they aren't necessarily to cut members. Instead, they serve as a tool for us to determine the level at which Zion's Symphony will be performing as a group!

To start, download the PDF file corresponding to your selected instrument and read it thoroughly. This document includes essential audition guidelines and all the necessary rubrics to ensure you create the perfect audition for Zion's Symphony.

Record yourself playing a short hymn from the hymn book and the recommended scales for your instrument, as part of the audition guidelines for musical auditions. Don't worry, these could all be in separate takes as well. Try to be as expressive, emotional, and dynamic as possible. Play from the heart, just like you would for Zion's Symphony.

Please submit your audition videos according to the audition guidelines via the Google Drive Auditions folder or email. We will be checking submissions frequently, as the adjudication process for the musical auditions is lengthy, so the sooner you submit, the better. Zion's Symphony: audition information
Deadline
The audition guidelines for our 2025-2026 performance season require submissions by August 18th! All musical auditions submitted before this date will be evaluated, while those received afterward will be ignored (except in special circumstances). This ensures that everyone has a fair chance, allowing us to begin rehearsals for Zion's Symphony as soon as possible.
Upcoming Rehearsals
As of July 29, 2025, our first rehearsal for Zion's Symphony will be held on August 31, 2025. We plan to rehearse every Sunday from 3:30-5:30 PM at a local church building. Rehearsals will be mostly youth-led, with an adult director guiding the program. We are here to develop ourselves and each other to maximize our effectiveness and perform at the highest level. For those interested, be sure to review the audition guidelines prior to our musical auditions.
Performances
We plan on having several performances throughout the season, ranging from invitationals, firesides, showcases, and other events. Most notable this year will be our Christmas showcase, where we perform a selection of pieces to honor Christ's birth and invite the Spirit. Additionally, potential participants should review our audition guidelines for the upcoming musical auditions, which will include opportunities with Zion's Symphony.

While we aim to perform at the highest level, all are welcome. That being said, depending on the number of auditions for your chosen instrument, we may have to be more selective. Please don't let this discourage you from auditioning, just try your best and let the Lord do the rest.
Any phone camera and microphone is fine. As far as apparell, don't wear distracting clothes in the audition and there won't be a problem. For rehearsals, we will dress nice casual (think jeans/polo). We will be in the stake center so show reverence.
Yes, just know that you will only be selected for 1 instrument officially. If we need reinforcement in other sections for certain pieces and you are proficient in another instrument, our director may ask you to play that one. Being dynamic is a very impressive and beneficial trait for our group

If you have recently auditioned, we are pleased to inform you that you HAVE been accepted. We did not make any cuts. There were some issues and confusion on submitting, so if you have any questions, show up to rehearsal or reach out and ask!
